Read Me And Weep
An exploration of the perpetuation of women, identity, dress, gender and rebellion combined using theoretical research, to create feminist art.
My garments main objective for this collection wasn’t functionality in that sense, but functionality in relation to the human race. They’re here to provoke thought and create change within people. I invite you to discover your own restrictive ideologies you have internalised, to open your eyes, question what you otherwise may never have.
There’s a lot I would’ve done differently but with the time span of 4 months to design and construct this was what was produced. This is just the beginning [i hope].
I believe our bodies are simply vessels through which we experience life and throughout time it has become oppressive propaganda used to remind us of our place in the world. With fashion as my medium, and the canvas on which the story is told, is the body. A different form of protest is formed. Art on the body and the body being the very thing that is being protested. Feminism is a hard thing to tackle but I’m loving it [most of the time] and I hope this can resonate with even a handful of people.
